Purple Umbrella was founded in 2007 by travel industry stalwart Charlie Bateson.
Charlie has worked for some of the biggest and most well-respected names in the travel industry and it would be true to say that travel is most definitely in his blood. He started out as a trainee at Trailfinders, working his way up through the ranks to become Product Director, taking a seat on the main board. From there he took on the role of Marketing director, controlling a budget in excess of £5m per year.
In addition to Trailfinders, Charlie’s worked with many of the UK’s top travel brands including the luxury specialist Abercrombie & Kent, Travel 2, Hays Travel, Page & Moy Travel Group and Best at Travel.
His long and varied career at senior and director level positions within Commercial, Product, Marketing and Sales teams, brings a significant understanding of the needs and desires of the independent traveller. It is this, along with his inherent love for travel, that drives Charlie and Purple Umbrella’s thirst for deeper insight.
